After a perfect 2011 season, the Carroll Dragons are receiving well-deserved recognition on both a statewide and national landscape.
One week after the Dallas Morning News announced Dragon QB Kenny Hill as the Offensive Player of the Year, Dragon Head Coach Hal Wasson has been given the nod of National Head Coach of the Year by MaxPreps.
Since taking over the head football coaching post at Carroll Senior High School in 2007, Wasson has garnered plenty of success with an overall record of 56-11, five consecutive playoff appearances, three district championships, and a state title.
Wasson’s 2011 team found a way to win against some pretty stiff competition like Denton Guyer, Arlington Bowie, Skyline, and overcoming a 9-point deficit to defeat Fort Bend Hightower in the Class 5A Division I State Championship. The title victory represents the eighth state championship in school history.
The Dragon Athletic Booster club congratulates Coach Wasson on such a remarkable achievement and a terrific 2011 season. Go Dragons!

For the eighth time in school history, the Carroll Dragons are State Champions!

GO DRAGONS!
Dear Dragons,
Welcome back from what I hope was a restful and fun summer. Once again, I’d like to congratulate our student-athletes, coaches, and parents for the best 5-A finish in school history in the UIL Lone Star Cup standings, another Dallas Morning News All-Sports Award, two team State Championships, two State Runner-Up finishes, and ten 7-5A District Championships in 2010-2011. What a great achievement for our program but with the new school year, it is time to look toward the 2011-2012 school year.
Keeping in line with the district’s theme of the ABC’s of the Carroll Dragons, I’d like to write about the ABC’s of the Athletic Department for the 2011-12 year.
A= Accountability to make CISD the best place in the nation for student-athletes.
Our vision is to create an environment that fosters excellence in everything we do in the Carroll ISD Athletic program. We want to provide an environment that promotes excellence, fosters integrity and encourages each Dragon student-athlete to reach his or her potential.
We are committed to ensuring success for our students at every grade level and sport. We understand the importance of vertical alignment and accountability.
All stakeholders in the athletic program must be accountable to each other and expect the best from each other.
B= Beliefs in keeping athletics an important part of the total educational process and keeping a proper perspective on what defines success.
We all have championships as a main goal. By following our beliefs, processes, and doing things the right way, the wins and championships will come.
C= Consistency to be able to compete at a high level every minute of every day.
Everyone has a day where nothing seems to go well and we all make mistakes. Champions find ways to make up for their mistake without making excuses. Championship teams pick each other up when mistakes are made or a team member is having an off-day.
We must control what we can control and not worry about factors that are out of our hands. We must realize that adversity will hit during the year and we must be prepared to stay consistent and strong. We must understand that constructive criticism from a coach is actually a compliment as they are trying to make us better.
Champions are consistent in everything they do.
I am so excited about the 2011-2012 school year because I believe that we have the potential to have the best year ever in Carroll ISD Athletics. I believe the UIL Lone Star Cup is a very attainable goal and that we can make achieve consistent success in all of our sports that we offer in CISD. However, it will take all of us working together, keeping each other accountable, and believing in one another.
Please do not hesitate to contact me during the year at kevin.ozee@southlakecarroll.edu
I hope to see all of you at the games.
Take care and GO DRAGONS!
